New polling from CBS/YouGov suggests Donald Trump is losing ground on the one issue seen as his golden child; Immigration.

While his approvals on the economy (Net -18%) and inflation (-24%) are well down the tubes, his approval on immigration has started to slide as well.

Among Americans, Trump’s approval on immigration has slipped to -2%, with Americans divided on the issue (49% - 51%, disapprove)

Nearly 90% of Republicans approve of the President’s handling of immigration, while an equal share of Democrats disapprove. Independents, true to nature, are stuck between the two parties, with a net-approval of -10%.

Trump’s messaging around arresting and deporting illegal immigrants has majority support, with 56% of Americans approving of the program, while 44% disapprove.

A slightly higher share of Democrats (22%) are on board with the notion of deporting illegal immigrants, while 90% of Republicans stand behind the President. Even independents are, on average, more likely to approve than disapprove of the program.

However, as other pollsters have gauged, Americans are much more willing to deport violent illegal criminals (83% support) than a law-abiding undocumented immigrant with family roots (Such as parents with US children, at only 14% support).

Yet, a striking partisan difference emerges when Americans are asked whether they find it acceptable if legal US residents are mistakenly detained or deported by immigration authorities.
