Mamdani vs. Cuomo: The Underdog’s Last-Minute Climb in the NYC Primary
Share

With the New York City primary elections taking place in June, it’s time to take a look at how the front-runners are performing in the polls.

A recent SurveyUSA poll asked NYC Democrats whether they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani.

Among respondents, 53% said they view Cuomo favorably, while 24% view him unfavorably, giving the former governor a net favorability of +29%. Another 20% said they were neutral toward Cuomo.

Mamdani finds himself in a position of relative obscurity, with 36% of respondents unsure how they feel about him. Among those who did have an opinion, 27% view him favorably, while 11% view him unfavorably, resulting in a net favorability of +16%.

Mamdani has been an underdog throughout the primary, positioning himself as one of the most progressive candidates in the race to replace New York’s embattled mayor, Eric Adams.

So how has Mamdani performed over the past few months, and has it been enough?
