Trump Faces the Same Affordability Wall That Crushed Democrats
Voters are not buying Trump’s pitch on prices any more than they did Biden’s
New polling from Data For Progress is taking a look at the affordability situation, and the data suggests Americans are not exactly thrilled with the current prospects.
Out of the gates, the survey asked whether respondents believe the Democratic and Republican Parties, alongside Donald Trump, have a solution for the cost of living crisis.
For the Democrats, only 36% believe the party has a solution for the issue, compared to 49% who do not believe that is the case. That includes nearly a fifth of Democratic respondents who do not believe the party has a solution, alongside 44% of Independents and 80% of Republicans.
The numbers are flipped when asked about the Republican Party, with 34% saying they believe the GOP has a solution for the cost of living, while 54% do not believe that is the case. 89% of Democrats do not believe their political rivals have a solution, compared to 58% of Independents and 20% of Republicans.
Lastly, Trump performs the best of the three options, barely, with 37% saying he has a solution to the issue, while 55% say the opposite. Once again, 20% of Republicans do not agree with that idea, while 60% of Independents and 91% of Democrats do not believe Trump has a solution.
Let’s dig further into the data, and see just how much Americans are hurting in 2026.
