Trump's Immigration Policy Has Gone Off The Rails
From Alligator Alcatraz to masked ICE agents, Americans aren't happy about the current immigration rollout
New polling from YouGov delves into the issue of immigration and how Americans are perceiving it six months into Trump’s presidency. To put it mildly, Americans aren’t pleased with the direction the government is taking.
Respondents were asked whether they believe Trump’s approach to immigration policy is too harsh, too soft, or just right. Just over half (51%) said it’s too harsh, including 90% of Democrats and 57% of Independents.
Another 36% of Americans said Trump’s approach is “just right,” a view held by 76% of Republicans. Only 7% said his approach is too soft, a figure that raises eyebrows about how far some Americans think immigration enforcement should go.
The poll also found that a plurality of Americans (44%) believe the administration is making many mistakes when it comes to deportations. Another 19% say the administration makes some mistakes, while 22% believe it makes only a few.
Just 6% of Americans, including 13% of Republicans, say the Trump administration isn’t making any mistakes at all in its deportation process.
Let’s dig further into the data, including where Americans stand on ICE agents wearing masks, the so-called “Alligator Alcatraz,” and the idea of detaining immigrants overseas.
